Have you ever tried to be more dog? Reiki can show you how.

I want to tell you about a remarkable woman who visited me at Mintaka Reiki in Sandbach last week. Dottie is 78 years old, and although retired, for the past 16 years she’s been a very active volunteer for the NHS.

If you ever meet Dottie, I doubt you’d ever forget her, because she truly does have a smile like sunshine. In fact, I can honestly say I’ve never met anyone quite like Dottie before: she just radiates positivity and love.

Like so many other people ageing gracefully, there are health issues she could complain about – but she doesn’t. She was widowed several years ago – but she’s grateful to have enjoyed such a long and happy marriage before her husband passed.

She counts her blessings every day, and looks forward to many more to come, but admits that if she was to die tomorrow, she’d be nothing but grateful and excited to see what comes next.

What an inspiration this woman is!

Be more dog! Or be more Dottie!!
Be more dog! Or be more Dottie!!

In trying to live my life the Reiki way, I strive to follow Dottie’s example. I like to think I don’t worry about things, I’m grateful for all my blessings, and I can’t remember the last time I got angry. Of course, I’m not claiming to be perfect (far from it!!) but I am definitely a different person to the one I was before Reiki came into my life.

For anyone who doesn’t know, Reiki is a safe, natural, and simple healing technique, which many people turn to as a way of helping with a physical problem, such as pain, or insomnia, or infertility. But Reiki is not just about physical healing; it also delves deep into emotional and spiritual wellness – which is where it can help you with worry, stress, and anxiety.

Like me, Dottie has taken Reiki Training too, and while I suspect she’s a naturally optimistic person anyway, I think having Reiki in her life has really enhanced what was already there.

For me, Reiki means I’m just generally calmer, and life is more balanced. Nothing upsets me, or can affect me the way it once did. I see everything as happening for a reason, and can therefore accept life’s inevitable setbacks more easily. For that, I can only thank Reiki.

Calm and balance: I think that’s what a lot of people are looking for in their own lives. Sadly though, these days it seems that stress and drama are the order of the day for so many people. And that makes life difficult to deal with.

For Dottie, she doesn’t do stress. For a start, she tells me, she’s very good at saying ‘no’. And recognising that her body is ageing, she’s also excellent at looking after it: after our Reiki time together, she intended heading home, curling up with a hot water bottle and enjoying an afternoon nap.

Taking life easy in the afternoons seems to give Dottie the extra energy she needs to do all the things she still wants to experience – like the solo trip to the Middle East she’s currently planning!

Now, you might have heard the phrase before: be more dog. Basically, it means living in the moment, appreciating things, not worrying about what others think, or stressing about things you can’t change.

Be more dog...

Or be more Dottie!

Either way, life is always easier when you go with the flow, rather than working against it.

If, however, you need a helping hand taking those first steps in turning your life around and becoming more dog, or Dottie, then I’d urge you to consider Reiki.

Whether you enjoy a Reiki Treatment in The Cabin, or decide to learn this wonderful healing technique for yourself, I sincerely believe it’ll be the best investment in you that you could ever make.

Until next week.

Much love,

Denise
