Did you, or someone you know, get a cancer diagnosis this week?

Since I started writing my Mintaka Reiki in Sandbach Blog, 18 months ago, there’s one subject I’ve always avoided writing about: cancer.
I’ve avoided it because, writing about cancer, and how Reiki can help, is a subject that’s so very close to my heart. Indeed, Mintaka Reiki in Sandbach only exists because my mam was diagnosed with cancer.
You can read her story here:

However, because I've now had several miraculous experiences with Reiki, and witnessed its effects on cancer, I didn’t feel I wanted to defend myself in public with the inevitable critics who’ll no doubt disagree with what I’m about to write.
But this week I’ve encountered three separate cancer diagnosis: two for very special friends of mine, and a third from a new client – who will very definitely become a special friend, as we work together on their cancer journey.
So, I think the Universe is giving me a nudge, and it’s about time I pinned my colours to the mast: Reiki helps in SOOOOO many ways when cancer comes calling, and this week I’d like to tell you about just a few of them.
Everybody knows that a cancer diagnosis can be one of the most devastating experiences in a person's life. A 2022 study found that 60% of cancer patients experience significant anxiety after a diagnosis, and the emotional, physical, and psychological toll it takes can make life feel overwhelming.
Then, beyond anxiety, many people also have to battle a new-found depression, and there’s a profound sense of losing control over their lives, too.
It's hardly surprising then, that as the rigours of treatment take their toll, many people seek complementary therapies like Reiki to help them manage symptoms and improve their quality of life.
Reiki aims to support the body's natural healing processes. It’s a gentle, non-invasive approach, which involves practitioners like me channeling healing energy to the recipient, promoting relaxation and balance.
And while I’m the first to admit that more scientific studies on Reiki's efficacy are needed, anecdotal evidence (and my own, lived experience) suggests that this ancient healing technique really can provide important and vital benefits to cancer patients.
Stress reduction and relaxation, enhanced emotional well-being, dealing with the effects of chemo, and improved sleep patterns, are just some of the benefits that have been documented. And when it comes to pain management, according to one survey of cancer patients receiving Reiki, over 80% of them stated they felt less pain after a session.
However, despite numerous testimonials from patients who have experienced the benefits of Reiki, the scientific community remains divided. Undoubtedly, more clinical trials are needed. But in the meantime, if you’re one of those people diagnosed with cancer, stoically trying to keep your head above water, while at the same time feeling like you’re drowning, let me reassure you complementary therapies like Reiki really do help.
Reiki is now offered in hospitals, GP practices and hospices throughout the country, and Cancer Research UK have some excellent information on their website about how Reiki can help after a cancer diagnosis.
From my own personal experience, I honestly can attest to the transformative effects of Reiki on cancer patients. I have witnessed individuals find solace and strength through energy healing, despite their diagnosis, and these stories of resilience are both healing, and inspiring.
So, as science continues to explore the intersection of conventional medicine and complementary therapies, it’s my deepest hope that everyone just remains open to the possibilities of what Reiki can do. It can provide comfort and support during challenging times, and for those navigating the complexities of cancer, Reiki really can be the light that guides you through the darkness.
Until next week.
Much love,
Denise.
