I returned to work at Mintaka Reiki in Sandbach this week, having taken a full two weeks off work. I’ll admit, I was ready to get going again, and I felt blessed that my appointments calendar was fully booked.
But I also returned to work with a renewed resolve to slow down!
You see, last year was a little bit crazy for me. When the New Year dawned I had absolutely no idea that 2024 would see me starting my own business – but within weeks I’d made the decision to set up a Reiki practice…and that’s when life suddenly got very busy.
But in 2025, I’ve made a new resolution to enjoy more me-time. Speaking from experience, I know what it’s like to feel constantly exhausted and pulled in all directions, and I don’t intend going down that path ever again!
Years ago, I used to be terrible at saying “no” – seriously, I would just automatically say “yes” to whatever was asked of me at work, at home, or socially – which led to me feeling constantly drained.
But when my husband suggested I come up with a handy list of “excuses” that I could draw upon to buy me some time to react, my life changed almost overnight.
Saying things like: “Oh, that date rings a bell, let me check the calendar and I’ll get back to you…” rather than automatically saying “yes”, really helped me to turn things around.
And when I realised that by saying “no” I was able to free up time to say “yes” to me, to my own wellbeing, I wondered why it had taken so long for the penny to drop.
These days, of course, it’s almost expected that people run themselves ragged and into a state of exhaustion in order to prove their worth to society. But believe me, society doesn’t need us to be exhausted, it needs us to be energised, and that only happens by slowing down and looking after ourselves.
So, when you feel your energy is running low (and we all know that feeling) don’t just press on, press pause, and do something just for you.
Now, being a Reiki Therapist, and knowing just how wonderful Reiki is at boosting your energy levels, I’m bound to sing the praises of booking a relaxing and rejuvenating Reiki session in The Cabin when it comes to recharging your batteries!
But it doesn’t have to be Reiki, you just have to do something, anything, that lights you up, that gives you the breathing space to be you again.
Don’t let the trivial get in the way of the essential, and what’s essential is YOU, keeping YOU healthy and happy.
So at least once a month, why not book an hour in your calendar that’s just for you? Find, or better still, actively create a time in your busy schedule for yourself to simply do nothing but rest and recharge. I know that you won’t regret it.
Until next week.
Much love,
Denise
